About Yourself: I'm a Software Developer....I put this tank is in my office about 4 feet from my desk mostly to just brighten up the office. But its a great break from staring at a computer screen 8 hours a day. Started out looking into a saltwater reef tank. Decided it was too expensive for a starter tank, so i bought this kit instead.
Fish Kept: All African Cichlids. Semi Aggressive Tank. 1 yellow lab. 3 red zebra. 1 hap moori juvenile. 2 hap ali. 2 assorted large cichlids. 1 unknown type...black with vivid blue stripes. 1 large Algae Eater( the type with the spikes on his head)
Corals/Plants: Red Lava Rock, plastic plants.
Tank Size: 58 gallons
Advice: Decided to use a magnum 350 with the micro filter to keep my water clear after a significant algae bloom occurred at a tank age of about 3 months. I installed custom plumbing in the cabinet to incorporate a UV sterilizer in the output of the magnum. Had to split the output to reduce the flow through the UV Sterilizer to its rated gph and not diminish the output of the magnum gph.

About Yourself: I started keeping fish for my son, who saw a friend's aquarium and was VERY entertained. He was less than a year old at the time. It has turned into a hobby. Today, through accidental circumstances, I now have 2 10 gallon tanks as well as a 30 gallon. One 10g tank is my original, I have not had any problems with it since setting it up other than with my original fish who came to me with a case of ick and eventually got some fin rot mixed in. We lost only one fish though. Now they are healthy and happy. Having no other problems. Even after introducing more fish recently. It might be a bit over crowded but the levels are good, the fish are healthy and everyone seems happy. The 30 gallon tank with 15 small ciclids and a small shark, we took on after my father-in-law died. We didn't really want it but after seeing the state of neglect they were left in we had to help them. The fish were so unhappy and hungry they started eating each other! We had to transfer all the fish to a temporary 10 gallon tank for the move. We reset the 30 gallon with 60% old water saved from the tank and ran it with the old Bio-wheel filter. After moving the fish over to the 30g, we eventually swapped out the HUGE bio-wheel for 2 smaller Aqueon charcoal filters. In total we lost 3 cichlids all due to the other fish, not sickness per-se. On the advise of an independent fish shop owner, we decided to use the new 10g for more small fish. And that's where we are!

About Yourself: I am fairly new to the hobby. I started the tank during my R & R from Kuwait with the Army in July of 2009 with regular community tropical fish. When I returned home from deployment in October 2009, My wife and I decided to change over to Cichlids.
Fish Kept: I keep this tank stocked kind of heavy in order to help keep aggression down with the fish. African Cichlids: 3- Melanochromis Aurutus (all males) 5- Yellow Labs (unsure of sex) 11- Pseudotropheus saulosi (6 males, 5 females) South American Cichlid: 1- Jack Dempsey (male) Regular community tropical fish: 1- Rainbow Shark 1- Silver Dollar 1- Pleco Other: 1- Blue Crayfish named Fred!
Corals/Plants: None, Cichlids like to EAT plants!
Tank Size: 55 gallons
Advice: You might as well get the biggest aquarium possible now because once you get one, you will want a BIGGER one!!! I am going tommorow to purchase a 120 gallon!
